DSC04295Thursday was a day for a driving tour to historic Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill.  The village was founded in 1805, grew to about 500 inhabitants as a communal village that did not support marriage.  The village closed in 1910.  Pleasant Hill is the nations most significant collection of Shaker buildings.

Following a "Shaker" lunch, we drove the Shaker Road down to the Kentucky River for a riverboat tour on the paddle wheeler Dixie Belle .

We finished the day with a "Welcome" reception around the fountain at the hotel.

The woman at right is demonstrating the type of activity that earned the United Society of Believers in Crist's Second Appearing the "Shaker" nick name.
