The Post Convention Driving Tour
Sunday, June 20th – Wednesday, June 23rd

Activities for Sunday, June 20th

After crossing the Golden Gate Bridge (above) and saying our goodbyes to those needing to return home, we will begin our Post Convention Driving Tour traveling south along the Pacific Coast Highway, past Devil’s Slide and Point Montara Lighthouse (below).  You’ll find the views along the way to be unsurpassed so be sure to bring a camera, and don’t forget a sweater just in case the fog rolls in.

We will spend Sunday night in the quaint coast side village of Half Moon Bay (http://www.halfmoonbaychamber.org/visiting_hmb/index.html) .  This is an interesting small town fill with antiques and collectibles, art galleries, craft shops, etc.  Nearby is the working fishing village of Princeton by-the-Sea.

So kick off your shoes, walk along the beach, try your luck at claming (above) and enjoy the sunset!  Our hotel will be the Half Moon Bay Lodge (http://www.halfmoonbaylodge.com/  800-710-0778) where we were able to negotiate a special Group rate of $109.

Activities for Monday / Tuesday, June 21st & 22nd

On Monday we depart Half Moon Bay and continue our drive down the coast.  We will stop to visit the Pigeon Point Lighthouse (below), which was first lit in 1872.  At 115 feet, it is one of the tallest lighthouses on the West Coast.

We will also be passing by Santa Cruz with its famous Boardwalk (above) on our way to the Monterey Peninsula.  Once there we will have time to discover Cannery Row (http://www.cannery-row.com/ ) made famous by novelist John Steinbeck, Monterey Bay Aquarium (http://www.mbayaq.org/ ), Pebble Beach and the 17-Mile Drive (below) (http://www.pebblebeach.com/page.asp?id=1373) and Big Sur.

In order to fully enjoy this magnificent scenic area, we will be staying two nights (Monday and Tuesday) at the historic La Playa Hotel in the town of Carmel-by-the-Sea (http://www.laplayahotel.com  800-582-8900).  Originally constructed in 1904 as a Mediterranean style villa, La Playa boasts wonderful formal gardens and is an ideal location from which to discover this charming coastal village.  Our Group rate for ocean/garden view rooms is $179.

The foregoing rates for both hotels (under “Mercedes 190SL Group”) need to be booked well in advance, so please make your plans as soon as possible.
