We took a break and drove four miles to visit Gary Cox and see and drive his 2 190SL's.  This car was modified by Manmmoth Lakes, a LA sheriff, to run in the 1955 Mexican LaCarrera.
The paint was classic 1955 Mexican LaCarrera.
Notice the dual coil ignition.
A typical race fuel tank with dual fuel pumps.
The dash was totally apart.  Note the timing unit under the dash.
Bruce Adams was very interested in the cockpit cover.
This shows the details of the cover construction.
Small "nerf" style bumpers.
Modern seats with head rests, soon to be replaced with early "gullwing" seats.
Gary's other car is a 19?? 190SL with a supercharger installed to make it go faster.  It sounds like it has a sewing machine installed.  He has since sold the supercharger to Robby Ackerman.
Loaded up and "on the road again".  The "Upstate Roofing and Racing" special.
The road through Utah was mostly desert with occasionally spectacular road cuts.
One of the things to think about in Utah is to always keep the gas tank full.  We drove 200 miles without seeing a gas station.
As we approach Colorado, we see the Rocky Mountains and snow.
The views in Colorado varied from pastoral, like Switzerland to ....
the low foot hills to ....
The Colorado river and its rapid flow along many miles of Interstate 70.
The mountains and snow.  What a beautiful drive.
The sign for Breckenridge.  We are almost to our destination, Leadville and the 190SL Group Convention.
