Dear 190SL Enthusiast and Conventioneer,
Planning continues and your prompt response is appreciated.
Meals included in your convention registration include Friday dinner, Saturday banquet and Sunday rally lunch.
Saturday Banquet. The caterer will be preparing food for the banquet off-site and bringing it over. We will have a choice of three entrees (below). However, it would be helpful if each of us would make that choice in advance. So please let me know how many in your party would like the following:
Atlantic Salmon
Chicken Cordon Bleu
Vegetable Quiche.
Thanks for your help. The other two meals will have a limited choice at the time of the meal.
Rafting and shopping. Over a third of the people signed up for the convention have also signed up for rafting. We also have some people signed up to go shopping or touring in Vail or Breckenridge. I will schedule this for the same Friday afternoon time slot. I am doing this to encourage as many Convention attendees as possible to get down (that is, go somewhat lower in elevation) the first day. Friday morning, we will do a driving event of some sort.
Rafting. I have signed us up with Four Corners Rafting for a float through Brown’s Canyon on the Arkansas River. The rafters will have to leave before noon on Friday to make a 12:30 put-in time. This sounds like a pretty good price to me: $33.92 for adults, $28.56 children 8-14. Terms are $100 deposit (already made), 50% due by July 13, 100% due by July 25. If you are signed up for rafting, could you send the additional amount to the 190SL Group soon? If you are not signed up, please think seriously about doing so. Brown’s Canyon is a very pretty raft trip. While enough water to float is promised to the rafting companies until the middle of August, it is getting low by July 27th. That means it is hard to find whitewater (serious rafting) anywhere in Colorado at that time of year. This trip should be a pretty float with a few opportunities to get wet, bail or go swimming. We are trying to arrange transportation and don’t yet know if there will be an additional charge. If you have any questions or concerns about the raft trip, please give us a call.
Shopping. If you are not interested in rafting, think about planning on going to Breckenridge or Vail with the shoppers on Friday afternoon. The same reasons apply: getting a little lower than Leadville on your first day. Be back for dinner, though.
Walking Tour, Train and Mining Museum. We have not scheduled any particular times to do this. These are things you can do upon arrival Thursday afternoon, during the Friday driving event (if not participating), Friday afternoon, or during the Saturday Concours when you are without your car. Tickets for the train should be available on a walk-up, or no more than a one-day advance. Your Mining Museum entry is included in your registration.
Please get back to us soon. We are looking forward to seeing you. See you in Leadville.
