Dear 190SL Enthusiast and Conventioneer,

Thank you for your registration for the 17th Annual Convention in Leadville, Colorado July 26-29, 2001. We think this event is coming together. We will need to ask you for meal preferences in about a month.

If you are signed up for rafting, the raft companies will pick up and return a group if it is large enough. So, we are trying to fit that into the schedule to make transportation easier. With regard to shopping/touring in Breckenridge or Vail, a few people have signed up. If you are renting or bringing a car other than a 190SL and interested in going to Breckenridge or Vail, would you be willing to take a few others? Please let us know. The other events are in or around Leadville itself, so transportation isn’t an issue.

Early on, some Board members raised the issue of the elevation and altitude sickness. The higher the altitude, the less oxygen there is in the air. Some people have a negative reaction to the decrease in oxygen. Symptoms usually last one or two days and may include nausea, headache, loss of appetite, insomnia, or lethargy. Individuals with chronic lung or heart disease may be affected adversely. If you have any concerns about your health and the affects of altitude, please consult your doctor. Please note that treatment involves resting, eating lightly, drinking more water and decreasing smoking.

The Sunday Rally and lunch will end about 100 miles SW of Leadville at around 2:00 PM. This will be a solid four hour drive (allow an extra hour for Sunday afternoon I-70 traffic, more for rental car shuttle, gas, or route other than I-70) to the Denver Airport, 2 hours from Leadville, and an hour from I-70.

Plan on very cool mornings with daytime highs around 80º F. Bring appropriate layered clothes. A light jacket for wind protection (top down motoring) and rain should be included. Sweaters, light parkas, vests, sun-protection clothing and sunscreen should also be included. Bring appropriate gear for events as well, e.g. swimwear for rafting, footwear for walking tour, money for shopping, etc.

See you in Leadville. Bill Johnson and Cheri Ferbrache
