The Convention

The festivities begin Monday evening at 6:00pm with a welcome reception, followed by dinner and an opportunity to connect with old friends and make new friends with 190SL owners from around the world. On Tuesday morning, we will hold the Concours d’Elegance and Peoples Choice judging, followed in the afternoon by a Gymkhana driving competition – to finally determine who really are the best drivers in the club. Late afternoon we depart for a private tour of the home and gardens at Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, followed by dinner at the restored colonial Michie Tavern (circa 1784).

Wednesday and Thursday will be our driving tour days, and we will split into two groups as before and alternate days. One group will head south to pick apples at Carter’s Mountain, visit Kluge Vineyards and Albemarle Ciderworks, have a catered lunch at Pippin Hill Vineyard overlooking the foothills in North Garden, travel up to the top of the mountains to catch the Blue Ridge Parkway with a photo stop at Ravens Roost Overlook, sample wines at Veritas Vineyards, and then return to Charlottesville. The other group will travel north along the Piedmont foothills to the town of Orange and a visit to the home and gardens at Montpelier, the home of James Madison. Lunch will be catered at the award-winning Barboursville Vineyards, and the afternoon will conclude with a private tour of the Rotunda and Academical Village (designed by Mr. Jefferson) at The University of Virginia.

Dinner Wednesday evening will be on your own at one of the many restaurants in the downtown Pedestrian Mall, and Thursday evening will be our annual banquet back at The Boars Head Inn. Friday morning will be our farewell breakfast meeting, and will conclude with great sadness as it signals the official end of a wonderful week of great friends, great fun and great cars. However, for those of you who aren’t quite ready to return home and want the good times to continue, you can join us for the After the Ball tour.
